If you want your device to listen for speech in your surrounding and transcribe it to text, then the installation of app “UHO Global – deaf transcribe” is recommended, which can be downloaded here.

If you want automatic captions generated from sound of other apps (e.g. YouTube, podcasts, browser), then installation of app “UHO Global – captions for deaf” is recommended, which can be downloaded here.

In case you’re using a PC or a laptop, the application “UHO Global for Windows” enables both microphone sound capture and capture from other apps (what you hear on speakers/headphones). It is made available here.

See instructional YouTube video below:

Internet is NOT used when recognizing speech.
App uses internet upon user confirmation only to download speech recognition AI model that runs locally on your device.

Sound captured by the app is NOT saved.
Application NEVER sends neither sound nor transcripts over the internet.
You can read more about app privacy on the following links:
• UHO Global (transcribe): privacy policy
• UHO Global (captions): privacy policy

Captions are displayed using sound of speech from other apps.

Additionally, some older Android devices may block access to sound from other apps (such as YouTube or Chrome). In such a case, it is recommended that you try using UHO Global with other, less known apps such as Opera and Duckduckgo or apps from Play Store or external app stores that support YouTube content.

Additionally, newer Android devices are recommended, however before buying it’s recommended to test UHO Global app on the device beforehand. In case of questions, you may write on info@obstino.org

App writes transcript or captions of recognized speech. Application captures sound of speech from microphone of your smartphone/tablet/computer or from the sound of speech that other apps are playing (such as the browser or YouTube).

Application then uses artificial intelligence models to recognize speech in real-time using the sound captured. The speech is transcribed into text (UHO Global – deaf transcribe), displayed as captions (UHO Global – captions for deaf), or both (UHO Global for Windows).

Application was developed as a part of Obstino – Assistive Technology Development Association, and is completely free of cost and made available open source (project is available on github link here).
